Its fairly easy to get up to Mt Olympus, just few steeper slippery sections. But if you continue to Pali lookout along the mountain ridge, you better be prepared. Vegetation is overgrown (wear long pants or knee high socks!) with scratcy plants and bees hiding in it. Also footwear with good grip is advised- muddy and slippery sections. Most importantly- dont go alone and and dont go if you are afraid of hights. Towards the end you need to do some rock climbing and abseiling. Wet and very windy conditions can make it hard to continue, but at that point it would be too long way back in case you change your mind. And remember if you have "too late to turn around" thoughts while you are still up on the ridge... its not too late...as long as you havent made it to the rocks! Recovery might take a week. Enjoy!
Start at the Waʻahila Ridge State Recreation Area, 3081B Paty Dr, Honolulu, HI 96822. Lots of parking and Mt Olympus is 3 miles in from this point. Great views on clear days. Several areas require rope climbing. Bring gloves and shoes with good grip or spikes.
This trail, along with Crouching Lion, were my two favorite hikes in my short trip in Hawaii. I'll be back again one day for sure
Amazing hike! Fantastic views, but...
Great Hike! Pretty technical with lots of rocks, tree roots and ropes.
Quite a strenuous hike especially when raining. Make sure you're not alone and have strong arms...yes strong arms.
