Overrated food mostly but I love seafood and every once in a while there are some good, fulfilling dishes. The chef at this location tries hard and falls short with his culinary experiments on the Daily Specials menu; there are just no true flavor profiles and the dishes end up bland, and at times, salty. Stick to the basics to hit the spot.
Relaxed and friendly atmosphere with good food and good prices. I feel like this place is under the touristy radar so even on Friday night in peak season we got a table with no wait. We loved the fish n chips made with Marlin which gave a meatier mouth feel. I had the swordfish which was a bargain at the portion they served. Their mashed potatoes were the real standout! I would recommend this to anyone wanting to avoid the normal busy places and want a great place to eat in a good atmosphere. Also our servers were top notch and very attentive, it was better service than in more expensive places I have been to.
Really excellent food and service. This is high quality, fresh fish. You get a really nice portion of perfectly cooked fish at a good price. My favorite is the edamame, pupu style, and the fish and chips. If you want a huge portion of cheap fish, go somewhere else. At Nico's you're paying for quality. One of my favorite restaurants!
Love being able to get great dishes from Nico's on the Windward Side without having to go into town, but they also have a fresh fish and poke market like they do in town. While it's certainly smaller, you can't find any fresher seafood or poke than here, especially for the prices. When I used to buy at the market they were always some of the best buyers.
First time visit to Nico's Kailua. Arrived at 6:30pm, Tuesday night. Restaurant half full. Got a table for 3 right away. Table near canal. Beautiful view out wide windows at table level. Waitress welcoming, quick service. Prices normal dinner fare. All three of us had the tuna. Excellent choice. Succulent. Unfortunately, by 7:30pm the customers were now filling up the restaurant and it was noticeably VERY NOISY AND IT BECAME AN UNPLEASANT dining experience. The floors are concrete, brick lines area of the large open space where hard chairs and tables are placed. Ceiling is wood. Windows line the canal view. VERY POOR DESIGN. I WILL NOT DINE there again.
